Description
The Steyr GB is a full‑size, semi‑automatic pistol developed in Austria by Steyr‑Daimler‑Puch and introduced in the early 1980s. Chambered in 9×19mm, the GB (which stands for Gasbremse, meaning “gas brake”) is notable for its unique gas‑delayed blowback operating system. Unlike traditional recoil‑operated pistols, the Steyr GB uses gas pressure tapped from the barrel to slow the rearward movement of the slide, contributing to smooth recoil characteristics and consistent cycling.
The pistol features a large steel frame and slide, giving it a solid feel and helping manage recoil effectively. It utilizes a double‑action/single‑action (DA/SA) trigger system with a slide‑mounted safety/decocker. One of its distinguishing traits at the time of release was its relatively high magazine capacity for a service pistol of its era.
Although it competed in various military and law enforcement trials, including Austrian military evaluations, it ultimately did not achieve widespread adoption and was eventually discontinued. Today, the Steyr GB is recognized for its distinctive engineering approach and has become of interest to collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate innovative firearm design from the Cold War period.
Beautiful and in amazingly good shape. This Steyr has a fixed barrel, comes with 3 magazines. These original mags cost over 150 a piece. The pictures speak for themselves.
